Study Abroad: How Stanford Students Can Take Campus with Them

Getting into a top college or university is definitely an impressive feat. Those fortunate enough to get accepted into schools like Stanford University undoubtedly want to do whatever it takes to maximize their experience on-campus. One way to accomplish this is actually by stepping off-campus through a study abroad program. The last thought a student may have is to leave the very school they’ve worked so hard to get into but what may come as a surprise is that Stanford has an overseas studies program equipped with its own international campuses.

The Bing Overseas Studies Program is one of Stanford University’s highlights within its curriculum. Although studying in another country isn’t mandatory, the school encourages students to expand their education by making it possible to arrange for a study abroad experience directly through the school instead of a third party organization.

What makes participating in the Bing Overseas Studies Program convenient for currently enrolled students at Stanford is that while studying abroad in their host country, students continue to receive credit for the coursework they’ve completed overseas, as well as keep their registration status active on-campus, along with regular tuition and fees and financial aid remaining in place for the duration of the program.

Of the handful of overseas campuses Stanford has, Australia is at the top of the list. Just a few years ago most students wouldn’t have picked this country for a study abroad destination but The Down Under, especially Sydney, has proven to be an ideal place for quality, affordable education. In 2007, the number of international students studying in Australia hovered close to 39,000. Over the years that number has increased dramatically to over 557,000 in 2011. In addition to its stellar educational institutions and facilities, foreign exchange students have access to one of the most beautiful places on the planet. From the famous beaches (Bondi Beach) to the Outback and the Great Barrier Reef, not to mention its mountain ranges and vineyards, people from all walks of life will find something to get into.

What many students may not realize is that many of its colleges and universities hold an international reputation for excellence and are considered to be among the best educational institutions in the world.

Whats on Sydney that could be very appealing to Stanford students is the wide range of disciplines to choose from. A few of the courses and degree programs offered include but are not limited to Engineering & Technology, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences & Management, Arts & Humanities and Life Sciences & Medicine.

Studying abroad through Stanford’s program also gives students the chance to participate in onsite academic and even paid internship placement, which means hands-on training and networking opportunities.

Ready to jump onto a plane and head to Australia? Stanford students wanting to take advantage of this opportunity should take the first step by making an appointment to talk to an advisor from the Bing Overseas Studies Program.
